Jondi Keane is an arts practitioner, critical thinker and Associate Professor at Deakin University. Over more than 3 decades he has exhibited, performed and published in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia.

Research interests:

- Contemporary Arts practice (installation-performance)

- Contemporary theory (art history, philosophy, cultural theory, cognitive science)

- Embodiment, embodied cognition and the philosophy of perception

- Experimental architecture, built environment and cultural space

- Practice-led research, research design and technics (technologies+techniques)

 

Research Snapshot:

Keane's Creative Research consists of studio practice (2 thhts@1nce); iterative installation–performances (Tuning Fork 2008, 2009); large collaborative projects with Flows and Catchments research group, spatial research with Affective Environments group (RMIT) and co-applicant on a 7 year grant project on research creation and collaboration: Immediations: Art, Media and Event (SSHRC, Canada).

He has published book chapters in several edited volumes and essays in range of interdisciplinary journals: Ecological Psychology, Janus Head, Interfaces, Studies in Material Thinking, AD (Architectural Design), Artforum, Inflexions and Leonardo (LEA) journal and has co-edited a special issue of Inflexions on the work of Arakawa and Gins in 2012.

Recent Conferences and Symposia he has organized include co-organizer of AG3: The Third International Arakawa and Gins: Architecture and Philosophy Conference (Griffith University, March 2010) and organizer of Unruly Techniques: Linking Knowledge Practices through Art, Science and Technology (Deakin University, Aug 2015).

Workshops form an increasing aspect of his creative research and scholarship, which combine performative presentations, enactive exercises, facilitation and discussion. The workshops focus on installation, performance and bi-manual drawing. In 2014 he gave a series of seminar sessions with Andrew Moorish at Improvisation Symposium Practices at Critical Path.

Current Practice-led Projects include PAN & ZOOM (collaborative performative-installation in Performing Mobilities, Melbourne) and Technics and Touch: Artificial Touch and Expanded Cognition (Drawing collaboration with robots in Technics & Touch 2015-16 at RMIT Design Hub, Melbourne).
